Shadow AI

AI use inside an organization that runs outside its approved, governed path.

Shadow AI is use of AI models and tools that an organization has not approved or cannot see: a team calling a model provider with its own API key, an employee pasting customer data into a consumer chatbot, an agent wired to a model nobody reviewed. It carries the same data and conduct risks as sanctioned AI, with no policy applied and no record kept.

For a regulated organization, the examination question is coverage: how much of its AI use runs through the controls it describes. Meilynx governs the AI traffic routed through it and, for the provider accounts an organization connects, reports the share of usage that went around the governed path, per provider.

Regulatory updates

When a regulator changes what an AI examination asks for, hear about it first.
